SCCHA 2010 Rules

1.    All horses are to be judged on performance only.

2.    All SCCHA shows will be judged by both NCHA and SCCHA rules.  If a question arises, SCCHA rules will take precedence.

3.    A horse shall not enter the arena at any SCCHA contest with any abusive gimmick or training device, except the helping horses may use martingales.  Futurity horses may use training devices during the futurity works.  Horse must be ridden with a bridle having a bit in the mouth or a hackamore.  A bridle shall have no noseband or bosal and hackamores shall be of rope or braided rawhide with no metal parts.  A judge must be able to freely pass two fingers between the hackamore and muzzle completely around the horse's nose.  Choke ropes, tie downs, wire around the horse's neck, nose or brow band, tight nose band, quirt, bat or mechanical device giving the rider undue control over a horse will not be permitted in the arena.  Wire of any kind and on any part of the curb device is not permissible.  Martingales are permissible in the practice pen.

4.    Any abuse or inhumane treatment of animals on the show grounds will not be permitted.

5.    Western attire is required in the arena, warm up area, and practice pen while riding a horse.  Western attire includes western hats and western boots.  Safety helements may be worn.  Men must wear long-sleeved shirts with collars and buttons or snaps completely down the shirtfront.  T-shirts and slip over knits are not permissible.  Women must wear long sleeved shirts with collars.  Sweaters may be worn over an appropriate shirt.  Short sleeved shirts with collars and buttons or snaps scompletely down the shirtfront may be worn in June through September shows.  Sleeves must be halfway down upper arm.  Lopers must comply with dress code.

6.    A show representative will be appointed by the Board of Directors to act as liaison person between Board of Directors, Contestants, Cattle Supplier and spectators.  It shall be his/her responsibility to settle any problmes that may occur during the show. If said representative should have to leave before the conclusion of the show it shall be his responsibility to appoint a replacement to carry on his/her duties until the conclusion of the show. 

7.    The board of Directors shall have final say on all matters.

8.    Any comment about the performance of horses aworking shall not be made within hearing distance of the judge.  A contestants shall not talk with the judge(s), beyond the exchange of normal greeting, during a show, nor shall a contestant duscuss with the judge any previous scores, events, or related happenings within (30) days after a contest in which both parties participated.

9.    The Board of Directros has the righ to disqualify or refuse entry to any contestant for any actions of misconduct, harassing the judges, show management, or employees.

10.    Once a horse is in the draw, no money will be refunded.  If a horse is scratched before the draw, the cattle charge will not be refunded.

11.    When time is called, a rider must quit at the earliest possible convenience.  Failure to compaly will result in penalty to be determined by the Board of Directors.  After the buzzer sounds, the cutter will discontinue working and ride his horse forward past the time line before dismounting, except to retrieve a lost article.

12.    Both owners and riders must be members of SCCHA to compete.  Anyone riding a horse on the show grounds must be a member.  If ownership is a partnership, only one partner must be a member.  Loper memberships are only for the date purchased and allow the person to lope horses not show.

13.    If a question of ownership arises, a notarized proof of ownership must be shown.  Horses will be allowed to show the first time only without papers, but will not be allowed to earn points until proof of ownership is shown.  Points will be retroactive when ownership is provided.  Registration papers will be acceptable on registered horses.

14.    Age of Senior Youth is 14 through 18 years of age to be ascertained January 1st of that year and carry the entire year.  Junior Youth is 13 years of age or under to be ascertained January 1 of that year and carry the entire year.

15.    There will be no alcoholic beverages allowed in the arena, warm up area, practice pen, or parking area.  Alcoholic consumption is contingent on the rules of the owner of the grounds on which the show is being held.  Any infraction of the rule may result in disciplinary action by the Board of Directors.

16.    A horse must be shown in its class at least 50% of the classes held for the current year to qualify for a year-end award in that class.

18.    Horses finishing the year as champion in the $2,000 and $500 class will graduate to the next higher class.  in the reamining classed advancement will be on money won under NCHA rules.

19.    All contestants will work at the appointed time so designated by the show management.   Horses arriving late may be allowed to show and receive a score if the herd drawn into is still in the arena.  Under no circumstances will a horse be allowed to show and compete after their designated her is over.

20.    Any class with points to rider must designate horse to be awarded points if showing two horses in class, declaring before class which horse points is to be counted.

21.    You are required to enter before the published deadline.  Riders will not be allowed to show again until all outstanding fees and/or penalties are paid to SCCHA.  Late entries may be accepted after the deadline but will work last in their class.  A $10 late charge shall be assessed for each class.

22.    Checks returned by the bank will be assessed a $15.00 charge and riders may be asked to pay in cash in the future.  Members with outstanding checks will not be allowed to show until all are paid.

23.    Loper's membership will be $5.00 at each show.  Loper must sign up with an existing member and sign a membership application.

24.    Any unruly horse causing a dangerous and or unsafe situation to the rider and or other riders and horses will be asked to leave the premises.

Amateur Status Classification for Disqualification

1.    The member has ridden or trained horses or horse riders for remuneration, directly or indirectly;

2.    The member ahs in the last ten years assisted in training horses or horse riders for remuneration ,
directly or inderectly;

3.    The member is married or has been married in the last 10 years to a person who is presently considered a professional by this association;

4.    The member has resided in the last ten years with a person who is presently a professional;

5.    The member is directly or indirectly employed by a professional and performs the duteis of employement on the premises of a horse trianing operation;

6.    The member has been an apprentice trainer at any time, or

7.    The member has received more than $50,000 in eligibility lifetime earnings.

SCCHA 2 Handed Class Rules

1.    Rider to not have won more then $500.00 NCHA earnings and horse to not have won more then $500.00 NCHA earnings.

2.    Rider may ride with a hackamore or snaffle bit and no martingale.

3.    Rider may show more then one hosre in the class.

4.    Points will go to the Horse and Rider Combination.

5.    Class to be judge like any NCHA class with out reining points or the second hand rule.

6.    Rider must have a rein in each hand and crossed over neck of horse at all times or score is 60.  Exception to this if rider drops one rein to the ground they may pick it up and continue.

7.    Use of saddle horn results in loss of run content and score will be 60.

8.    The two handed class will have fresh cattle.
